C.W. Matthews and Miura America are about to get a pair of Polk County College and Career Academy graduates when they finish their time in school later this month.
Rockmart High School senior J.D. Summerville signed with C.W. Matthews to continue on in a career with the company after spending the last two years as an intern in their asphalt division while finishing high school.
The Polk County College and Career Academy’s Facebook page celebrated his signing on May 11, and he’ll be going into their roadway division to pursue his love of operating heavy machinery in the future.
Signing day for jobs continued this past Monday at Miura America in Rockmart, where Cedartown High School PCCCA senior Jacob Griffin signed with his family in tow and officials from the company to get a job when he graduates as well.
Griffin is already in the work-based program with Miura while working as an intern for the Rockmart plant in the welding division over the past two years as well as taking classes with Georgia Northwestern Technical College, maintaining a 3.8 GPA in the process.
He’ll continue his passion for welding in his new career at Miura America.
The pair of recent ceremonies is a new and growing trend to celebrate seniors who are taking on careers instead of heading off to college, with signing day celebrations much like those held by athletes and their families when they sign scholarships for future education.
