Getting Started in the Boiler Business

Fernando Acaso’s journey into the boiler industry began over a decade ago. Initially working with hot water systems, his career took a significant turn in 2012 when he received an email from Monster.com that led to a position with Miura. Although he has been with Miura since 2012, Fernando’s experience with boilers dates back to 2010. Starting in maintenance, he traveled extensively across Mexico before advancing to a maintenance supervisor role. This hands-on experience gave him an intimate understanding of boiler operations, making it second nature for him to discuss boilers effortlessly. “Talking about boilers is second nature for me. It’s easy,” he says, reflecting on his deep knowledge of the systems.

Role at Burner Combustion Systems

Fernando now leads sales at Burner Combustion Systems, a role he has embraced since 2018. His background in maintenance has been invaluable, providing him with the technical insights needed to accel in sales. He enjoys the diverse applications and unique needs of various industries. “I love talking to different companies and understanding their specific requirements,” he shares. Fernando takes pride in seeing his clients’ success, even recognizing his customers’ work in everyday settings, like a grocery store.

For Fernando, the boiler industry is more than just a job; it’s a passion. He finds joy in educating others about steam boilers and the critical role they play in everyday life. “Steam touches 80% of our days,” he explains, emphasizing the widespread impact of steam technology. Whether it’s a car needing steam for manufacturing or food processing in a grocery store, Fernando is proud to be part of an industry that is so integral to modern life.

Favorite Project: USD Group | Fort Arthur, TX | 8 Miura LX-300s

One of Fernando’s favorite projects was designing an entire boiler system for USD Group in Port Arthur, TX, an oil and gas operation.

USD Group® (USDG), a wholly owned subsidiary of US Development Group™, along with its affiliates, specializes in designing, developing, owning, and managing large-scale multi-modal logistics centers and energy-related midstream infrastructure across North America. USDG is owned by its employees, Energy Capital Partners, and Goldman Sachs.

When USDG needed to upgrade their steam boilers, they turned to Fernando Acaso and Burner Combustion Systems for a solution. Fernando, leveraging his extensive experience, helped design their boiler room, implementing eight modular, energy-efficient Miura LX-300s. This tailored solution not only met USDG’s operational needs but also enhanced their energy efficiency, ensuring reliable and cost-effective steam generation for their facilities.

Hobbies and Personal Life

Outside of work, Fernando enjoys spending time with his 10-month-old son, home brewing, and participating in long distance triathlons (Ironman). Home brewing allows him to blend creativity with engineering, crafting unique recipes and styles. Whether he’s swimming in a pool or running on the tarmac, Fernando’s hobbies reflect his dynamic personality and love for challenges.
